What is this?

Welcome to BK's BS (Brent Kassing's Bible Study).

Mission trips always provide time for my team's to listen to and prepare devotions. When 2020 came around and mission trips went away, I started to do them myself weekly. What began as a short-term idea has turned into a long-term discipline that's changed me for the good in so many ways.

My goal here is to take my observations of every day life and put a Christian perspective on them. I do my best to be transparent, honest and consistent knowing that there are other takes and opinions across all of these topics. Like everyone, I've made good and bad life choices. However, by dedicating time to the regular study and application of the Bible, my goal is to work towards making those "good" choices more than those "bad" ones, improve my spiritual development and continue my never-ending journey as a Christian.

Thanks for stopping by and God Bless!

Fantasy Island

The show Fantasy Island was about people coming to this location thinking they knew what they want, only to find out it's not what they want. In today's world, we are being told what we should want and have to be successful and happy; however, are you living my man's thinking or God's? Where are you rooted?

Colossians 2
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding [d]in it with thanksgiving.
Beware lest anyone [e]cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [f]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [g]principality and power.

Make Room

Make Room is the name of a song our band played recently at church. Often times, we listen to songs and hear words but don't HEAR the words. This song essentially is telling us to make room for God. Are you making room for God or are you making room for everything else but God?

That (dang) Ego

Have you ever let your ego keep you from asking from help? Have you every let your ego stop you from empowering others? I think we all have at times. What do you think would have happened if Jesus let his ego get in the way, and we didn't have the disciples? Not much....certainly most likely this devotion would have never taken place.

Where's your (devotion)?

It took me a while, but I realized that I had some priorities messed up. I had my devotions in the wrong order. Now, it wasn't due to an addiction or anything bad, but just taking fandom to the next level. Are you devoted to something here on earth that distracts you from giving the Lord you heart, soul and mind?

Matthew 22:36-37
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

36 Hours in Florida

How are you preparing for life? Do you try to insulate yourself or do you look to challenge yourself? Physical. Mental. Spiritual. 36 hours not knowing what my next step was going to be. I do things like this because I know we are going to be challenged going forward. Most importantly, I know God will challenge me, and my answer to his request of me, are "lets do this."

Opposite

How many things have you said no to in your life that you wish instead you had said yes? Physical, mental and spiritual health only increase by taking on new adventures and putting yourself in challenging situation. That's what I'm doing this weekend when I received an invite for which I would typically say no to…..but this time I said yes. I did the opposite.

The Only Leadership Book You Need to Read

I've read a lot of leadership books. And eventually they all end up sounding alike…..using the same words to share the same principles. A local KC pastor finally brought it all together when he said what I kind of knew all along, that the Bible is the foundation for all the leadership lessons one can ever need.

Overwhelmed

Have you ever felt overwhelmed? Well, the disciples did when they were told to feed the 5000? Job did as he suffered terribly. Even Jesus was overwhelmed with what his Father, our God had asked him to do. But through it all, we should all just do our best, forget the rest and let God take it over. Which is much better than being overwhelmed and doing nothing at all.

My Addiction

I had a twitter addiction. It took up FAR too much of my time. I went cold turkey earlier this month. What do you do every day that may be a distraction and be unhelpful in improving your life? Why did Jesus go to the dessert and "get away". He needed to clear his mind and focus. And so do we.
