What is this?

Welcome to BK's BS (Brent Kassing's Bible Study).

From May of 2020 to October of 2021, I recorded a weekly 15 minute devotional every Wednesday live on Instagram, and uploaded it here and to YouTube. My purpose in doing so was to stay connected with a regular practice that occurs during our mission trips to Brazil. My goals were to:
1. Figure out a way to stay in touch with the Bible, without just reading the Bible for the sake of reading it. How can this applied today?
2. Be vulnerable and address topics personal to me and perhaps not so popular in the secular world.
3. Grow in my faith.

I'm very happy with how this practice met these goals. What's next? I'm not so sure…..but I do know Who to go to ask….

God Bless.

Let your kids go!

As parents, it's natural for us to want to protect our kinds from evil, harm's way and other nasty things. However, this is not only unrealistic, but actually may be harmful. In Luke 9:3, Jesus sent out his disciples and said "Take nothing for the journey - no staff, no bag, no bread , no money no extra shirt….." Jesus knew it was not to protect all things the disciples will encounter.,..with many suffering and dying for their cause. God gives us that same freewill, and we too will have life challenges. And with that, it will be good.

All In!

The song Sails was on my mind. Essentially the song is about doing it your way all this time without realizing that God is with you all the time. And in reality, we should lift our sails because no matter what, God is with us and there for us. Thus, go all in!

5 Ways Golf is like Christianity

Did you know the golf journey is a lot like our Christian journey?

  • It’s a life long journey; there is always more you can do
  • It’s easy to lose focus
  • It can be frustrating and joyful at the same time; the struggles are worth it
  • It is better when done together
  • You do the wrong thing even though you know the right thing to do
  • Can Christians get Angry?

Do you get angry? Of course you do. Should Christians get angry? Or should just turn the other cheek and just be cool, calm and collected all the time? Do a search on "angry" in the Bible and you will get a host of verses and stories….generally telling us to be slow to anger. But in the bigger picture, Jesus did get mad such as when he overturned the tables at the Temple. So which is it? Stay calm? Or throw around some tables?

    Fantasy Island

The show Fantasy Island was about people coming to this location thinking they knew what they want, only to find out it's not what they want. In today's world, we are being told what we should want and have to be successful and happy. So which is it, are you living by society's standards or God's? Where are you rooted?

    Colossians 2
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding [d]in it with thanksgiving.
Beware lest anyone [e]cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead [f]bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all [g]principality and power.

    Make Room

Make Room is the name of a song our band played recently at church. Often times, we listen to songs and hear words but don't HEAR the words. This song essentially is telling us to make room for God. Are you making room for God or are you making room for everything else but God?

    That (dang) Ego

Have you ever let your ego keep you from asking from help? Have you every let your ego stop you from empowering others? I think we all have at times. What do you think would have happened if Jesus let his ego get in the way, and we didn't have the disciples? Not much....certainly most likely this devotion would have never taken place.

    Where's your (devotion)?

It took me a while, but I realized that I had some priorities messed up. I had my devotions in the wrong order. Now, it wasn't due to an addiction or anything bad, but just taking fandom to the next level. Are you devoted to something here on earth that distracts you from giving the Lord you heart, soul and mind?

    Matthew 22:36-37
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

    36 Hours in Florida

How are you preparing for life? Do you try to insulate yourself or do you look to challenge yourself? Physical. Mental. Spiritual. 36 hours not knowing what my next step was going to be. I do things like this because I know we are going to be challenged going forward. Most importantly, I know God will challenge me, and my answer to his request of me, are "lets do this."
